Visa Pre-Paid Support Coming

For some time now Visa has supported a "pre-paid" type of credit card, which is much like a gift card, but it is accepted as a credit card making it "universal". There becomes an issue with the POS though, where the balance of a check or invoice might be higher than the amount remaining on the pre-paid card, generating a decline when approving. Only by calling the 800 number on the customer's card or checking on the web can the balance be determined, and that balance can be used to generate a successful approval.

We will be adding support for a new "partial auth" response from the credit card processors over time, starting with version 2.6 for Paymentech. Now, when a check is attempted to be closed for more than the balance on a pre-paid card, a partial auth will result, using the balance on the card as the payment amount and prompting the server to enter another form of payment for the remainder of the check.
