Death to the Order Server

In order to make our installations simpler, and to allow onePOS to print on the handhelds to a Belt Printer, Order Server has now been incorporated into the Terminal Application. You no longer have to run a separate application, or worry that someone closes the DOS box, to drive the remote printers.

It might be a little tougher to support because there is no text screen telling you what is going on, but overall with the "welcome chit" it is still very easy to support.

Next week we will begin creating the "onePOS Server" service. This service will initially handle all database IO (replaces Windows File Sharing) and Replication (replaces Replicator.exe).

In 3.0, all exporting will come from this service, permitting a more consistent export pattern whether the BOH Application is running or not. You might want to start sizing the CPU and memory on Terminal 1 depending on what you might be doing with exports (ie: if you are exporting every 15 minutes to a SQL database, etc you will need a bit of horsepower here).

Down the road (3.1+) it is likely it will get smarter and permit things like instantaneous updates of tab names, time open / number of guests / flash on held items for each check on the Table Select screen, etc...
