We are now lab testing 3.0 core technologies. We are probably still 2-3 weeks out on a Alpha product for the channel, but some exciting things are coming together now, a lot of which is from our work on 2.9.
We have reduced our application count to 3. Management Console (was BackOffice), Terminal, and onePOS Server.
The Order Server is now included in both Terminal and onePOS Server. The Replicator Server is now included in onePOS Server. Verifone, Caller ID, Avery Berkle and Digital Persona are now included in Terminal. Verifone is also included in onePOS Server. Hardware will be setup with id's 1-999 for POS Terminals, 1001-1999 for Handhelds, 2001/2002 for the Primary and Backup Server, and 3001-3010 for Manager PCs. This gives you tremendous flexibility in setting up a system.
We have also written our own Socket data communication system to replace the SFTP everyone is using (since Windows File Sharing is not PCI compliant). While it will initially be a little bit slower, it provides several benefits including better fault tolerance, no Windows Server licensing cost over 8 terminals, and 'drop and run' deployment of onePOS. It is really pretty cool to see the POS Terminal and Management Console run not on a G: drive.
We are still working on the "onePOS Launcher"... but that coupled with onePOS.cfg are the only 2 files required on a remote Terminal or Manager PC! (and at that, I think we can make it so that you can download the launcher from a webpage and let it self configure on the POS network). We will still provide a SetTerm, but only to lock down Windows Components that are not PCI compliant.
